About Maddalena Poleggi

Maddalena Poleggi was born in Genoa, Italy, in 1965.

She was always interested in drawing and conveying reality visually and in writing through the lens of her sensitivity and emotions.

She developed her artistic career alongside other professional experiences, but her love for watercolour, cultivated with tenacity and curiosity, has accompanied her over time, enriched by encounters with other artists, and various collaborations.

Today she is a passionate 2D artist who loves exploring the rich potential of watercolour painting, interested in both figurative and abstract subjects.
Other captivating projects include : book illustrations and imaginative engravings.

She lives in Nice, a colourful, luminous city which has inspired much of her recent urban sketches and landscape works.

Artistic training

Self-taught painter, I have always been more attracted to creative experiences with inspiring artists than to school lessons.
In Luxembourg, 1991-1997,  I learnt the various techniques of artistic engraving and attended my first formal watercolour classes. During that period, the practice of watercolour painting has become more assiduous.
Since 1998, in the south of France, I developped a deeper understanding of this demanding technique thanks to the teaching and advice of two artists in particular : the Chinese watercolorist  David Fujitsang and the French painter Marc Lavalle.

Current events

After a long break from exhibiting, my latest public events are as follows:

  • participation and award of the International Watercolour Master 2026, Shropshire, England (see below)

  • 2025-26 participation to the Artist & Artisans Market on the Place Garibaldi, in Nice. For the 2026 schedule, please check
